Our first chapter in Social Studies is about Social Scientists. A social scientist is a person who studies how people live in a group. There are 4 different Social Scientists.
An Economist studies the way people in a community use resources to meet their needs and wants. They study how people make, buy, and sell things. The artifacts that an economist uses are receipts, price tags, advertisements, and items you have recently bought.
A Geographer studies the Earth's surface. They study natural features like plants, animals, land features, and water. They also study constructed, or man-made features like bridges, roads, and cities. The artifacts a geographer looks at are maps, weather reports, and articles about nature.
A Political Scientist studies government, who is in power, and how they use that power. They look at artifacts such as election ads, legal forms, voter information, and news stories about law and government.
Historians study the past. They look at events and ask why and how did this happen. Historians study artifacts such as birth certificates, family photos, letters, diaries, and family treasures.

Red, White and Blue for Heroes
On September 11th, we celebrated our heroes with an assembly that honored our Burlington police and firefighters, as well as those that serve in our military. Our 5th grade Chorus sang songs and spoke about what it means to be a hero. The third graders wrote letters to the police and firefighters, reading some of them aloud. I love that Pine Glen continues to uphold this tradition so that we may Never Forget.
We wore red, white and blue to show our solidarity and love for our heroes.
Check out our spirit!

Bubble Man!!!
Have you worked with bubbles today? If you have washed your hands, brushed your teeth, and had breakfast (digestion), then you have worked with lots of bubbles according to the Bubble Man! On Tuesday, we experienced an amazing show all about bubbles. We learned some of the science behind bubbles, as well as received information about how to build our own bubble makers. So get some bubble liquid and start making bubbles!
Can you make a snowman with bubbles?
Do you know how to blow a bubble around a dinosaur? It's a whole new Jurassic World! Try it at home!
Ellie in a bubble!
Ellie even got to try!
Thank you so much to our Pine Glen PTO for enriching our students and teachers with such a fun program!
