Cystic Fibrosis Wristband Fundraiser

Cystic Fibrosis Wristband Fundraiser
IMG_7111.JPG

Student Council is sponsoring this event to support a close friend of one of our students who is affected by this disease.  Bianca Algeri is a seventeen year old girl who was born with Cystic Fibrosis.  She  has formed her own organization, Bianca’s Angels, that helps support research for this disease.

To support this cause, we are selling purple wristbands that students can buy from their homeroom teacher.

Where can you buy them?
Students can get wristbands from their homeroom teacher on Monday, May 9-Friday, May 13th.  Each wristband is $2.  All funds will be donated to Bianca’s Angels, so additional donations are welcome!

Meet Bianca!
Students will get to meet Bianca on Friday, May 13th at 1:15 p.m. She will be visiting each individual classroom. The Student Council asks students to wear purple on that day, to show support for this amazing cause.

Read Across America

March 2nd is the birthday of Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.  We celebrated with some fun activities in Mrs. Parnell's Kindergarten class.  Stories were read.  Bingo was played.  We interviewed our new friends to learn a little bit more about each other.  Have you ever won Tic-Tac-Toe with green eggs and ham pieces?  We colored The Cat in the Hat and completed a word search.  To cap off the fun, we attempted to place an egg piece on a plate without looking.  Overall it was a very enjoyable experience and we can't wait to do some more fun things with our Kindergarten friends soon.

 Reading with our friends.

 Interview a new friend!

Siblings are the best!

Bridges - Connecting with our Community

BRIDGES:  GROWING OLDER, GROWING TOGETHER is seeking grandparents and adults ages 55+ for their intergenerational program with fourth grade students at Pine Glen. The program begins April 5th. and runs through May 31st. The volunteer commitment is for  six sessions one-hour sessions from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday mornings.  Two volunteers work in pairs,  meeting small groups of fourth graders to share conversation and learning experiences under the guidance of the classroom teacher and the Bridges Together curriculum.  The lessons promote mutual understanding, respect, friendship and family ties.  An orientation is provided prior to the first session.  Volunteers do not need to be Burlington residents.   Contact Kathy Lawless by phone at 781-273-4109 or kathylawless@verizon.net to register.
